Leeds - Timing Belt Change

Afternoon All,

I have recently bought a 2010 RRS 3.0 TDV6 - 74,000 Miles

Its come with 3/4 years Land Rover Service
2/3 Years service at a company called Britannia Performance, with a mobile number that wont ring.
And its last 3/4 years service at AMC performance - I've called them and whilst they have records of service they don't have any evidence that it has had a timing belt change.

I'm thinking its probably best to bite the bullet get it done very soon.

I have called a couple of independents' who won't touch it.

I did speak to the place where I bought it and he recommended having the auxiliary belt changed at the same time???

I was hoping there would be someone on the forum in or around Leeds who could recommend somewhere to have the work done?

Whether it would be prudent to have the auxiliary belt changed at the same time?

And, what should the cost for this be?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Leeds - Timing Belt Change

Timing Belts are circa 100,000 miles
Gearbox flush circa 80,000 miles (mega flush)
EGR Valves circa 80,000 miles
Yours is low milage it may go on years i.e. timing belts front and back 7 years
Plus there maybe others applicable to your model such as ACE (active cornering)

Timing belts if they snap will cause a considerable amount of damage to the engine?

I think you are wise to get the belts done ASAP as they are interference engines so if the cambelt snaps the pistons hit the valves and can ruin the heads.
I'm not sure if the garage was referring to the high pressure fuel pump belt as that should be replaced at the same time. The HPFP belt is timed (unlike the 2.7's) and I guess most non-specialist garages don't fancy the fact that it's right at the back of the engine, obviously, and is a bit awkward.
My 2010 3.0 had the belts done by the specialist garage I bought it from so I don't know what would be the price for belts and a service, at a guess £800-1000. I'm sure someone will let you know what they have paid. I've hear Green Oval LR specialists mentioned on here and I think they're in Leeds. Best bet is ring a LR main dealer (for a bit of a laugh if nothing else), then try a few LR specialists. I'm not for one moment suggesting you take it to a main dealer, but it will give you a reference to start with.

Thanks All,

As an update I was recommended to try Castleford 4x4 center.

Gave them a call and they quoted £400 for timing belt changed.

They seemed very knowledgeable about the engine and its requirements.

Certainly far more knowledgeable than me.

Going to pop in today and see them before I commit.

Is the £400 for both belts and tensioners?

Pardon my lack of knowledge,

Are the tensioners 'rollers'?

He said timing belt, rollers and auxiliary belt to be changed for £425.

I've provisionally booked it in for June 15th,

So if there are any concerns, I'm happy to hear them.

hi all

sorry for jumping on this thread, im in the process of looking for a RRS

ive found one which is a 59reg 3.0 v6 with 78k it hasnt had a belt or gear box flush so ive rang a specialist near me, hes quoted me in the region of £3000 for the belts and gearbox?? i know its a bigish job but that seems steep to me?

said the whole body is to come off which i have heard before

is he trying to pull my pants down or does this seem right?
