Pipe found when changing Air Compressor

Hi All,

I have had my range down on its bump stops for a few weeks now. Air compressor doesn't fire up like it should. Tried jumping the relay. Sounded like it was working hard before it gave up. So have a new one on the way and i figured i would take the old one out. This is the third compressor I've had go and this time after a sense of humour failure I thought i'd have a go at it myself...

Only to find the bracket was soldered on to the chassis by the last person that changed it for me....

But i managed to get it out with a lot of wiggling nevertheless.

My question is: I found a random pipe not connected to anything under there. Please see pic. Can anyone tell me what this is? and is this meant to be like this?

Thanks

It's the exhaust from the air suspension system and yes, it is meant to be like that.

After the air is exhausted from the compressor assembly (the air from the system passes back through the drier to flush out any moisture in the desiccant) , it is fed through the silencer, then it vents to atmosphere just as you have pictured. Kev
