No power below 2500rpm

Hi All,

My 09 sport has lack of power below 2500rpm then once it hits that the power kicks in. It has now started to put out abit of black smoke when it changes gear. Any ideas (gulp)

Wild guess, but could be EGR valves.......

Which engine have you got? 2006 RRS HSE 2.7 TDV6 (The Baby one as I keep being told)
1999 Discovery 4.0 V8 (Gone but not forgotten)
1997 Range Rover 3.5 V8 (Long gone now)
1966 Series II SWB with RR 3.5 V8 (Never finished, now sold)

has it had a turbo recon job in the past?

this chap spent $$$ with a similar issue, turns out it was a missing gasket: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showt...ost4306675

4 different workshops, 2 primary turbos , set of injectors , cross over valve , boost pipes , vacuum hoses , body off 4 times , intercooler , ECU software change x 3 , intake manifolds and countless man hours spent...….the problem is 1 gasket worth a few bucks.What I now know is that the previous owner had both turbos removed and reconditioned after a primary turbo failure. In this process the secondary turbo was reconditioned but never assembled correctly to turbo shut off valve. The technician failed to insert a gasket between the shut off valve and the turbo. Without this gasket exhaust flow is not fully directed to the primary turbo under 2500RPM and instead bleeds off into exhaust system. So the lack of sufficient exhaust pressure/flow being directed to primary turbo prevented turbo from spooling up to potential, hence lack of power under 2500RPM. New gasket now fitted and vehicle drives like a dream. Live and learn.

It’s a 2.7, it also has an engine warning light on.
No it hasn’t had anything do with the turbo

The intercooler hoses delaminate/split and restrict airflow. Fairly cheap and easy to replace. I would consider that first. Many owners replace them with silicone hoses for longevity. I think there are 3, but it's usually the big one at the front and top of the engine.

if it smokes like a gooden at start up its EGRs!

Same happened to mine.

blanked them off and what a difference!!

I had that last year, lucky it was just the long turbo hose cheap and easily to change.
