Buying advise please

Hi I’ve owned a 2008 RRS tdv8 3.6 for the past 6 years. It’s covered 114k has no issues at all I’ve had it regularly serviced by a brilliant and skilled technician. It’s had new EGR valves being the only major problem since I’ve had it . The usual wishbones as well been done and my Large old English sheepdog fits in the boot without too much of an issue but recently and I’m not quite sure why but I’ve taken an interest in the new shape RRS 🤔 and I’ve found one on a 2014 plate with 61k on it looks very nice but I’ve heard about the issues it could have with engine

I changed from a 2016 D4 to a 2015 RRS and do not regret it one bit. It’s a different class Joined the X5 45e club

That is a very tidy looking motor! If it has a warranty and your friendly mech has a quick look, go for it! Haggle though, there are loads on autotrader, and I mean loads!

Stay with the TDV8. You know it inside out and it's fully sorted. Buying another vehicle, even a "nice" one, opens you up to buying a pup.

The TDV8 will easily do 200k miles so yours has plenty of life left in it.

Save your money and stick with what you have. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi , yes I know what you’re saying, it’s been going over in my mind constantly! I went and had a look around it on the forecourt yesterday and it’s so easy to get drawn into buying what is a really lovely looking motor 🥴 I know the issues with the L320 ie bushes ,wishbone , turbos, etc and I’ve always driven my car with care and had it looked after but the L494 is something unknown to me ! I’m sure it probably has similar problems and maybe the L494 owners here will be able to inform me please 😉👍

Hi,
I had a TD5 for nearly 10 years as did Not want to change it, 2.7 RRS just over 2 years and fancied a change to a 3.0 RRS had that for 2 years and fancied a 2016 3.0, had that for just over 2 years and had another change Exclamation

If you fancy a change have a change you only know if it was a good idea AFTER you have done it, if you have the itch, scratch it

Our 2016 dynamic we had for just over 2 years and it that time it had a rear light changed under warranty for condensation and a valve in the exhaust that was "clacking" Exclamation thats it Thumbs Up

Oh hold on we had to have the diamond cut wheels refurbed Twice due to milking Rolling Eyes dealer sorted

Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022
gone Porsche Cayenne 2020
gone Corris Grey HSE Dynamic 2016
gone Ipanema HSE lux 2010
gone Rimini HSE 2005
!!

I don't know your financial circumstances but my advice would be 'you're a long time dead'.
I got my RRS as I am not too far away from retirement and thought that if I didn't do it now, I'd might never be able to afford it in future.
Absolutely love driving it and gives me a really great feeling of having 'made it'.
Was by far the most expensive car I have ever bought, even at 6 years old.

Each to their own. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Ditto Grimble above. They are great cars and the difference will definitely be noticed. Like I said, get the best you can afford and keep it for a good while. 👍

Going back to your first post ..

I've done a fair amount of reading about the JLR engine failures, ie spun big end bearings, and I think it is "mostly" down to two things. 1. not changing the oil frequently enough, and 2. fuel contamination in the oil from blocked DPF's. So if you are the sort (like me) that does frequent oil changes, you'll probably find that they are fine.

(Cue someone who now comes along and swears blind that they change their oil at 3000 mile intervals, and still had a problem!!)
