Shocked..

Driving the 05 L320 the past few weeks has revealed a rattle in the headlining just behind the sunroof. Anyway it turned out to be one of the clips come apart. Fixed.
What surprised me most was the fact that there is no sound deadening applied to the inside of the roof. Just painted (barely) metal.
I was under the impression that these are luxury vehicles..

Never noticed.. Probably will now tho.
I'm on a mission to sound deaden my X5 when the weather gets a bit better. The doors don't have the same thud as I want.

Did you have to remove the headlining to get in and repair the clip or were you able to access it without? I have the same rattle and was hoping I could carry out a fix with minimal effort for a change

Thanks Lee

The headlining is the sound proofing. Thumbs Up

In 2005, the RRS was just a rebodied Discovery, not a "real" Range Rover. The L494 does share stuff with the Range Rover and so more reasonably deserves that name on the bonnet.

Anyway, if you haven't heard wind/rain noise from the roof, the sound deadening provided obviously is sufficient. Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

On my previous car - 2013 Evoque Dynamic Lux so top spec - the rain on the roof panel in front of the panoramic roof was like a tin can, it annoyed the hell out of me. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

No I didn't remove the headlining. It was loose around the sunroof and after taking out the alarm sensor I could get a mirror in and have a look around. One clip that looked like it had velcro on it had come apart so a swift clout sorted that.
It would be nice if the roof was covered in Dynomat..

It would be more weight and cost for no benefit. As already said, if you haven't noticed wind/rain noise from the roof up to now, then it's working ok as designed.

On neither of my L320 RRS have I noticed wind/rain noise from the roof area. The biggest wind noise culprit is the door mirror and there's nothing that can be done about that. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
