Clicking Noise

Good afternoon fellow RRS owners. I hope you are all keeping well and sane.
I am not concerned but more curious and wonder if anyone could help please?
I currently have my car locked in my garage. It is a 2011 TDV6 RRS. I have noticed that
if i pull a door handle (whilst it is locked) i hear a single 'click' from the rear passenger side.
It is quite loud but once i have pulled the handle it does not occur again unless i try again
after a short while. As mentioned i am only asking out of curiosity. Can anyone shed any light please?
Finally, an update after 15 months ownership. Still very much in love and as yet no problems. I did have
LR update the pipe to the turbo to avoid the build up of oil but other than that i have thus far been lucky.
As per my first post in January 19 i do still hold my breath every time i push the button but am learning to relax.
Due to the current climate i have not driven her for a while as we have access to another car but i must confess to
going to the garage for a wee peek now and again when my fine wife is not looking. I do not want her to get jealous.

Anyhow, just to say thanks for all the great posts that i love reading. You are a great bunch!

Philip

Hello, I have the same single ‘click’ issue with my 2012 RRS HSE LUX. Whenever an exterior door handle sensor is touched I get a single click from the rear valve block area behind the driver’s side rear tire (USA). Its as though something is attempting to activate, but the interior lights do not come on. I recently swapped out the rear air struts and the rear valve block so there might be a correlation there, did you ever figure out what was happening with your rig? Good to know I’m not alone!

Greetings across the pond GT RRS.
Thanks for your reply and the short answer is no, i did not. It still clicks as per your
post and similarly the lights do not come on. I have put it down to a quirk of the car. I am due a service in March and if i remember i will ask the tech guy out of curiosity. I will post any reply if he has an answer. Thanks again. Phil

Out of curiosity just tried mine and that does it, but I don't think I will be worrying about it as had the car nearly eight years and never noticed it before, assuming it has always done it can't see it being a problem after all this time. Laughing

Cheers

Thanks guys, across thousands of miles we’re connected with our quirky yet fabulous rigs, and their unique anomalies. Here’s a quick five second video sent to my dealer rep today. I’ll let you know if he replies with any answers - not counting on it as they tend to monetize things, but you never know. Also may have been happening for the three years I’ve owned it but only noticed recently.

I have noticed that mine clicks even if you just slightly pull the door handle - gently. I have even tried
sneaking up on it to catch it out but that does not work Very Happy .

Phil, try just touching the door sensor on the inside of the handle, and you should get the click without even opening the door.

Dealer emailed me back today saying it could be the security module, bring it in for fu$$ diagnosis and evaluation. Thoughts on that? I’ll be researching tonight.

Hi GT RRS
Yes. Mine does that exactly. Just a light touch and 'click'.
Thanks for your efforts in getting to the bottom if this and at
least we now know. Thumbs Up

Yes we now know how to replicate it - next is to learn why it happens!

Not that it is of any real relevance but noticed it does it with the tailgate release as well, strange why it activates what sounds like a solenoid in the rear axle valve block thought, but I did read something about rear axle valve block being used part of the power-up diagnostic check, so perhaps it just wakes up the system somehow, but would have though that would be when car is unlocked rather than just touching the handle, and doesn't do it again straight away until system has gone back to sleep.

Cheers
Col

Excuse me for being a bit cynical with dealers, but it will probably be something like, but they all do that Sir, that will be $250.00 thank you.

Cheers

Indeed. And to clarify, my question was in regards to the security module idea, not whether or not the stealer - errr, dealer - wants to monetize every opportunity. Of course they do, they’ve only seen my rig for warranty work, nothing else. I do topside oil changes myself for 1/4 what they charge, and sourced new air struts from Arnott and new valve blocks, then had a local repair shop perform work. All for less than a third of the dealer quote. I do stop in once in a while to test drive the newest jaguar however Cool
