RRS 2011: suspension fault stop safely stop engine - leaking

Hi,

Had the warning suspension fault stop safely stop engine Sad. noticed leak on the drivers side and checking under the bonnet the reservoir for Dynamic Stability fluid was low and below minimum so obviously have a leak somewhere! Next day tried to check and struggling to find where the leak is coming from on starting the engine whole load of noise so turned off!

1. Im guessing the noise its the compressor getting no fluid, can I disconnect to ensure it does die?
2. any tips where i should be looking for the leak?
3. is it save to drive on once I top up?
4. Is this DIY or specialist, if specialist will i need to remortgage?!

Not completely up to speed with your particular model but the suspension compressor is related to the air suspension in each wheel arch. The dynamic suspension is the front and rear roll bars which are oil and is driven by a pump,, which I'm sure will be belt driven off the engine. Quite often the problem is the pipework that runs front to back as it is open to the elements and therefore suffers from corrosion but you say you have an unhealthy noise when you start the engine,,, which I guess is the pump. If this is so I wouldn't think topping the oil up would make it safe enough to drive as the pump sounds fubarred. Depending on how good you are with spanners will depend how easy the job is I suppose,, not having done this myself I can't really comment any further I'm afraid but I'm sure someone else will comment and keep you right. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Also the fluid has been seen dripping from the drivers side wheel arch...

Drivers side wheel arch leak will be the dynamic response fluid. There are four pipes there which the flow and return pipes for both anti roll bars. It is a DIY-able. Just do a search on here...

Hi Guys, thanks for all the advice. I have managed to find the leak it is from the lower pipe out of the 4 and its seem like its is leaking from the bracket onwards, see pics.

So is it easy to replace just this one pipe? is there joins where it come undone and you can attach the new pipe? or is it best to cut and add couplers and a bit of new pipe? HELP!! I have it booked in with an indy tomorrow but thinking if there is a cheaper option to fix?

thanks knwatkins, do you know if I can just fix the one pipe and does it come of at the joints or does the whole thing need to be replaced? thanks
