blanking egr?

hi everyone
i have read that blanking the egr could speed up the car a bit but have also read that it could lead to knocking noises on the engine. has anyone else attemtped this mod and any recs for me?

also want to mention that she is blowing out black smoke above 2000 rpm and an engine fault light came on shortly before on a long trip down to to the continent. shes still down there and want to take either a new MAF sensor or an egr blank kit if that would fix the issue as well but haven't been able to check the computer to see what the issue is.

any help is highly appreciated

Hello had similar issues recently and first LR specialist said I needed a new DPF at considerable cost but still had same issue. Took to another LR specialist and it was the MAF sensors and now running great.

Black smoke above 2000rpm could be a simple split intercooler hose or it could be one of several other things.

As for EGR blanking, on the TDV8 it will need a map doing too in order to ensure you don't get issues with engine lights coming on etc. Blanking the EGR is really more about removing it as a future failure point, and much done with the 2.7TDV6 which did have EGR reliability issues. The TDV8's EGRs are much less prone to problems for some reason. Certainly they can do 150k miles or more without an issue. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just remember it's a motoring offence in the UK to do such a thing. If it's undiscovered then it's no problem but it'll likely invalidate your insurance as well.

Had black smoke from my 2005 TDV6 a few years ago, checked the 3 hoses (seems to be the usual problem) but the fault turned out to be a crack in the intercooler itself. Part replaced, running great ever since.
