L320 2.7 TDV6 parking brake. Terrible grinding noise

Hand brake making horrid grinding noise. Yellow light on. I've removed the fuse. Is this the gears in the unit?

Normally problems with the EPB are associated with a screeching noise,, but in any case have the system cleaned and adjusted correctly and with a bit of luck it may be ok 2010 RRS, TDV8

EPB repairs

So I thought I'd update this post. I ended up removing the EPB and installing new cables. I also ended up removing both hub knuckles and installing new back plates, wheel bearings and bushes top and bottom (bought a 12 tons press). I also removed the EPB mounting plate and refurbished it with new mountings for the EPB box which also needed new fixing screws on the lid. I bought gears for the EPB but didn't use them. I replaced all the shoes, springs and pins.

I took the EPB out through the rear RHS wheel arch but it was easier to remove the mounting plate above the spare wheel and replace the box and plate as one. Happy to walk anyone that wants to attempt this through it. It's a big job especially with the corrosion I had but possible?.

No need to get anyone to do the work for you. It took me weeks in installments. In between I simply reconnected the EPB electrically but took the main fuse out this allowed me to use the car during the process. You don't have to lose the use of your car. I secured the EPB with cable ties in between tasks.

Parts are cheap. I guess the whole exercise cost me lead than £400 including buying the press. Because I did this in slow time installments I spread the cost. Also I don't have a garage. I did it all on the drive. I used a garden gazebo to keep sun and rain off

That's good news.

Your experience sounds a lot less painful than this guy had...

I think it is because I took a lot of time.....weeks. every time I removed something there was something else that needed removing. I had to pluck up courage for each task. But also the car is the daily drive so it had to be useable after each fix. Maybe I'll tell everyone how I fixed my jammed VVT turbo mechanism with the body still on.
