Front brake options?

So done a bit of research and came up with some options all upgrading to V8 size,

Solid Brembo discs with EBC Ultimax pads

Solid Delphi discs with Ferodo pads

Terrafirma Cross drilled discs with Ferodo pads

Only a fiver difference across the three, never had cross drilled discs before like the look but heard noise can be an issue? Steve

When you say solid Discs do you mean plain vented one's not grooved/drilled or a actual solid disc? as I thought all Sports had vented discs, also the 4pot or 6pot Brembo calipers as different diam. discs.

Cheers
Col

Hi Col, sorry I’ll be more specific, I currently have standard vented 317mm discs so looking to upgrade to the slightly larger 337mm fitted to early V8’s so when I said solid I meant standard vented. Steve

I had Brembo discs and pads all round on the L320 and I thought they were fine. Some people say that Brembo discs and pads are rubbish, but not in my experience, they were more than suitable for my needs and provided good stopping power.

I think the next time I go for pads though, I'd be looking around at ceramic compound ones to reduce the brake dust. Kev

I’ve recently upgraded mine to V8, but on Steve’s (T &S Norman) recommendation for genuine LR discs n pads they’re fine for my driving and occasionally towing. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

I recently replaced the front discs and pads on my TDV8. After a bit of research on here and the Disco forum I went for Britpart XS discs and TRW DTEC pads (low dust). I fitted them just before a recent 2400 mile trip to Spain, which included towing a trailer on the return leg. I've been really impressed so far with the performance of this combo and it's very noticeable how much cleaner the wheels are with the low dust pads. The red backing on the pads with nice new non rusty discs looks the mutts too!

At least I've now got the government enforced 14 days at home for cleaning the rest of the car after a sh***y drive up through the UK overnight. Looks like the wheels will only need a quick rinse though! Rolling with laughter 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......

I'd love to go for those DTEC pads, Kev. Do you have a part number please? When I was on the TRW site the other day, I could only find DTEC pads that were compatible with the TRW calipers and not the Brembo calipers. I assume you have the 6 pot Brembos on your TDV8? Kev

Hi Kev,

No I've got TRW calipers. I think they dropped the big brembos for the TDV8 2010 model year and fitted the the same as the 3.0V6. 2010 was the last year of the TDV8 and so it only just made it into the facelift years.

Just seen your last post - that's a nuisance. Have you tried dropping TRW a line directly? 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......
