Paint peeling on side sills

I’m new to this site and I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. I have recently purchased a RRS 2017 Autobiography in Aruba Gold. I’ve noticed that the paint is peeling from the sill on the passenger side. This happened after jet

washing the car. Is this a common issue for this colour? Should I expect it to happen elsewhere? Any insight appreciated.

Is it just the paint finish or is it right down to the plastic underneath?, if so initially I would say the plastic wasn't prepped and primed properly prior to top coat. Any possibility it's had a replacement sill trim fitted at some point.

Cheers
Col

I am sure this isn't the case (but just in case) I do worry about jet washers. They are very powerful. I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't use high pressure on the tyre walls as they can be damaged. Well if they can do this to rubber, think what they could do to a thin sliver of paint if you get too aggressive.

I tend to think that its more likely to be poor preparation as Col suggests but.......

Just noticed my typo - changed "should" to "shouldn't". Makes a bit of a difference Embarassed Robin

The slightest stone chip can allow pressure washer water to get underneath the surrounding area, or as suggested crap preparation before painting.

I had stone damage on the silver aluminium edge of my side sills, and every time it got washed the silver reduced and the black increased, until I had to replace them.

At least they'll be no rot, but would suggest proper preparation before re-painting, the extra cost paying dividends in the long term.

The door mouldings on mine are suffering the same,, I assumed they had never been primed correctly, spraying onto plastic is not the same as spraying onto metal. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks all. I’ve spoken to 4*4 in Leeds and they pretty much told me the same. The paint won’t peel if a good primer is applied. In this case, I’m straight back to the plastic once the gold paint peels. Poor prep seems to be the issue. I was also advised that jet washing should be fine if the paint is properly put on the vehicle in the first place!
I’ve also spoken to the dealer and they are going to respray for me next week. They actually offered to buy back the car I think that shows how prices have hardened as a result of diminishing stock! Prices on the rise?
Thanks to all for your input... very helpful! 👍
