EPB Screaming Banshee

This ONLY happens after I've been using the brakes more than normal driving - ie down long wiggly narrow hills, exuberant B-Road driving, short sections of dual/roundabout/dual/roundabout etc. Red flashing lights, warning and so on. Turn off/on and it works fine again.

Not wishing to lose my car for any period of time to a garage so wondering what's the likely cause/fix?

Have a look at bodsy's brake bible and adjust the EPB. Don't leave it too long or it'll be new module time ££££ (or module rebuild, but a PITA nevertheless). Kev

I totally agree with Kev,,,, get it looked at as soon as or it will cost you dearly. Is there not an indie you can visit and just have the rear brakes cleaned and adjusted,, it's probably an hours work. I normally have mine done at every service as it once cost me £1200 when the rears siezed on,,, new disc's,EPB module, pads and shoes.. 2010 RRS, TDV8

OK - I will have a go at adjustment according to Bodsy's Brake Bible and see how I get on. Bought a 32mm socket & just summoning up the courage... Seems to be relatively straightforward but I'm sure I can muck anything up!

What's the worst that can happen Wink

Make sure to have a tin of brake cleaner and give everything a good squirt down whilst you are there Thumbs Up Kev

I don't have any of that and I can't really nip to Halfords to get some! Oh well...

Alternative is a bit of tape across the EPB switch to prevent it being used until someone who knows what they're doing can do it for it you. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Problem to that is that I instinctively use it all the time Laughing

Followed the bible more or less. My ratchet things didn't seem to be in the same place and would probably be better saying move lug up/down but got the job done! Whether or not that will have any effect remains to be seen Laughing

The problem with looking under your car is that you see things you don't want to see, such as rear brake backing plate is rusted to pieces and breaking off in bits. That and the ominous looking oil weeping that seems to emanate from the off-side rear diff someplace near where the drive shaft comes out.

That and more swollen nuts Big Cry

Oh and putting the last wheel back on and there's a quiet but gentle hiss of a slow puncture FML

Well done for sorting it out Thumbs Up

Look on the bright side - you've identified those bits to sort out now, instead of it being picked up at a critical time, for example during the MOT. Steve, DevonZ did his rear seals on the diff today. It is a DIY job. Check his thread out here and just ignore my erroneous post Laughing Kev

Doesn't tell me how unfortunately. Is probably something for my specialist and besides, to get into my garage at the moment, I have less than an inch either side, so a bit of a job. Confused

(Why is this upside down?)

Just as an update, the fiddling around I did last weekend appears to have worked! Quite a few drives down twisty roads with heavy trailers to heat the brakes up and all quiet as a mouse Cool

Got the camera set to Australian? Mr. Green

Good job on the brakes! I am sure my EPB has got louder since I've owned the car .. but maybe that's just paranoia! It's not as loud as the one I test drove though, which shat itself as I parked back on the forecourt Laughing "Oh, it just needs resetting!" said the very optimistic dealer.. 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S
