I believe Andy is referring to the butterfly valves in the EGR Modulator Valves.



There's no way you can remove the butterfly in the main throttle and have the car run.

Disconnect the electric plug and then start it and give it a light Rev.
Drive it if u want

Now you've really lost me Andy!
This is an extract from the manual regarding the "Accelerator Position Sensor" APP

"The APP is integral to the accelerator pedal assembly.
The APP sensor enables the ECM to determine the throttle position requested by the driver on the accelerator pedal.
From the sensor signals, the ECM determines driver demand as a percentage of pedal travel, where 0% is with the pedal released and 100% is with the pedal fully depressed.

Driver demand is then used to calculate throttle angle, fuel quantity and ignition timing."

That is the three basics. Air, Fuel and Spark.
The air being controlled by the throttle.

With no throttle, how do you control engine speed then?

I can only suggest the manual is partly wrong and it appears to describe a petrol model, born out by the words " ignition timing"

OK Andy,
You are correct. my manual is clearly incorrect and so am I.
Having a V8 petrol and never worked on a diesel, I have based this whole discussion on what I read in the manual about the RR TDV6.
I pondered how your car could run without the throttle butterfly so I did a lot more reading.
The TDV6 does indeed have an electronic throttle valve but it is not used for primary rpm or torque control as described, but plays a minor role with engine shutdown and EGR control as you stated.
Hats off to you mate, I have learnt something new.

I may remove mine if it’s straight forward? Not getting any specific problems but throttle response has never been eager and I still have an EGR circuit A fault code which may effect the operation of this flap maybe? EGR’s are blanked.
