Fitting towing electrics... Do I need a split charge relay?

Hi,

Thinking of fitting towing electrics myself after looking at the guide on here. My question is.... Do I have to fit a split charge relay? Thinking of fitting 12N & 12S sockets.

If fitting my own sockets to the car like in the guide on here, when caravan/trailer is hooked up, do you get an additional audible sound to say all is well and working?

Been looking online at universal kits and some come with audible and split charge relays etc.

When towing a caravan, I would like to be charging the leisure battery and powering the fridge while driving. Don't want to risk draining my car battery when not driving.

When the caravan indicators are working you get an addition light in the dash.
No crappy buzzer Laughing

I don’t think you need a split charge relay

If the fridge draws more than 10A you need a relay maybe wise to fit one if u will use it lots

Yep... Razz

Been looking at universal kits, some come with a bypass relay (if car has canbus).

Is that required on an 08 Sport if taking feeds from the tow connections in boot.

No it’s not required.

A lot of cars have connectors for towbar in the boot. These are used at the factory if you specify a towbar option from new

These offer a far superior result when used and they are much easier to connect to like you are doing now.
