United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Lux Orkney Grey
Service by reputable trustworthy garage or LR Specialist

Hi All, I would like to get some advice on servicing a 2012 RRS SDV6 bought in April this year. She has done 132,000 miles and was last serviced at 126,000 last August. She has always been serviced at Land Rover or a LR specialist up to 126,000. I have used a independent local garage for previous cars for the last 10 years who is very trustworthy and reasonable, the owner of the garage also owns a RRS. Based on the mileage and age of the car, is it still better to use a LR Specialist who I don't know or this local garage who I can trust? Thanks in advance for any view shared. Sanj

At that sort of mileage and age I'd go for a good local LR specialist over a LR dealer any day. The local one you know would be great as long as they employ good engineers and not just bolt off/bolt on monkeys. Knowledge of the intricacies of the RRS would be a real bonus Robin

Avoid main dealers, it will make little or no difference to the value of your vehicle at that age and mileage.

A good inpdendent LR specialist will be much better than a main dealer. However, if your trusted mechanic has a RRS himself, I'm sure he will be aware of the vehicles' common issues, maintenance requirements and how to repair. Kev

LR specialist Indy. Not a main dealer. Not ever. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

You shouldn’t assume that just because he has one that he knows these inside out. I’d put a question on here or the disco3 sister site and ask where is the recommended indie close to you.

As the others find an indie. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

If I'm reading the post correctly, the question isn't between LR main dealer and LR independent, the OP is asking whether he should carry on using the LR independent who's serviced the car for most of its life, or whether he's OK to carry on using the trusted local mechanic who's always maintained his cars.

My take on it is that at the mileage you're on (similar to my own BTW) I see no issue in using a trusted "general" mechanic for servicing and other basic works, transitioning to the local LR independent only when specialist tooling / electronic gear is required.

This is what I do and I've never had an issue at resale time (or anywhen else)
