Retrofit OEM DAB+ module in RRS MY 2011

Anyone retrofitted an LR original DAB unit to a 2011 RRS?

Is it a plug and play option when adding/replacing with a second hand Land Rover original DAB unit?
I know nothing about the internals of my current system and can't find any schematics anywhere to help me.

Currently I plug in my iPhone to access DAB using the TuneIn App which is not bad but a bit fiddly to use on the move.

Many thanks for any assistance. RRS 2011 TDV6 HSE Limited Edition, Fuji. Previous owned: Vogue 3.5, Vogue 3.9, Vogue 4.0, Disco2, Disco3

Thanks Brit Plumber,

I currently don't have DAB in my RRS.
I was hoping to fit a DAB unit puchased on Ebay and exchange it with the unit already fitted.

MM4747 did you ever get to the bottom on this? I too am looking to install a standard DAB module from ebay and can't find references for where to install the module or how to remove any trims if required.

I looked into doing this on my Disco, and upgrading the DAB in my RRS to DAB+.

Ended up buying a Kinetic Digitizor from dabonwheels and a powered DAB sharkfin antenna from elsewhere for the Disco and am well pleased with the result.

For the RRS I'll just get the Digitizor as the antenna is already there.

Good to hear guys!

Though I'd rather get a factory RR unit off ebay for £40 and keep OEM head unit if possible. Do either of you have advice on removing the boot lining on the sides? I can't for the life of me find a vid or pics of clips or however it's fixed.

I know the antenna is in the rear quarter window, I have a shark fin, and the module is apparently behind the boots rear quarter panel lining.

Even the instructions in the workshop manual are a bit vague, however if you view these instructions in "my gallery" and click on them they should be more legible, I also think you will find Band L of the Dab antenna is in the shark fin, Band III is in the nearside rear quarter window, although I will admit haven't a clue as to the difference, frequencies I guess.

Cheers

no need to remove rear panels if you upgrade to a double din unit and keep your head(satnav) all working as it does normally. DAB aerial is fitted just beside A pillar at front of windscreen, use original aerial for radio, I tapped into the original mic in the roof and used that so no external mic either, comes with USB connector which i fitted in the ashtray (never use it) so when closed no cable, I also fitted a reversing camera at the same time as all of the above Smile

I think he may have a Facelift variant, and have never seen a double din unit conversion advertised for the facelift, although to be fair haven't actualy been looking for one.

Yeah I've got 2010 face-lift version (I think) haha! There's been some mods to it from previous owner like 2012 tailgate. Think it's got autobiography bumpers too but don't know if thats standard on this spec?

Anyway.......

Thanks for the pics Col, I'll check them out and let you know!

When you remove the panel just be a little bit careful when removing the front part which goes down the wheel arch by the seat rather than just yank on it, as this is only sort of plastic spot welded to the larger part and can separate although not a major problem if they do.
