YUASA batteries.

Well, after another 7 months with a YUASA battery, this ones given up the ghost as well. So, I bought the first one in Feb 19 and it gave up and blew my camera module in Nov 19, got a replacement under warranty and it’s been fine up until a week ago when I noticed the starter was getting slow. Put the CTEK on it and got it topped up. Yesterday I noticed it was slow again so put the CTEC on it in the afternoon. Gone to it today, green no. 7 on the charger but car is dead. Looks like it’s just holding a surface charge which is the same fault as it had last time. So I’ll be off back to Halfords for a better battery!

The first one lasted 9 months and the second 7 months. I’m not the first to report problems with these recent YUASA batteries so I guess they’ve cheapened the materials they use. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Do you leave the CTEK on for many days in a row.

One of my CTEK chargers has a fault. It will sit there on green saying it's finished charging, but if you start drawing large loads it doesn't kick back into full charge mode like it should.

It does sound like battery prob though.
Maybe wise to check the RRS isn't draining current when parked.

Not normally, I fitted it yesterday about 3.45pm and today I removed it at 3pm. Went to start the car and it wouldn’t. Put it back on charge and it had dropped back again. This is the exact same issue I had with the first battery and the guy who tested it said I had a bad cell in that one. The alternator is kicking out plenty it’s just the battery not holding it. I think I’ll be asking them if I can upgrade to an AGM. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Have said it before, had two Yuasa fail in quick succession and would never fit another one, fitted a Varta AGM and been perfect ever since.

Cheers

I’ll be pushing for an AGM even if I have to pay the difference although I don’t think they supply any other branded batteries other than YUASA. I’ll see what they say but I don’t want to be going down this road in another 6 to 8 months. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Sorry to hear about this. It's crap. I always thought Yuasa were a good bet.

Touch wood, my Yuasa is still holding strong after about 7 months. I shall keep my fingers crossed. Kev

So I got chance to take the battery in today and sure enough, the battery is dead so I’ve paid an extra £35 and got an AGM instead. Apparently the problem with these YUASA Silver batteries is that they are Calcium and once they drop to a certain point, no amount of recharging or conditioning will ever bring them back. Even if they have sat on a shelf and gone flat, they are scrap. The chap I talked to said that they never advertise or make buyers aware of this and he said the worst cars for it are Land Rovers, Jags, BMWs, Merck’s etc. anything of an older type premium brand. Best sticking to a cheaper lead acid or more expensive AGM.

If you find your Calcium battery has gone flat, don’t believe it will ever be right again. Mine was flat once for no known reason and it was goosed. 2012 5.0 SC AB
