Yeah, I've just read the first chapter. It's very interesting to understand how previous development projects, that were eventually canned, influenced the design. Some of the concept images are very interesting too - two door versions with edge pull door handles for example! Kev

I got it for Christmas. Very informative on how it arrived and the different model years. Silly little details but I won’t mention them until you’ve read it Thumbs Up 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

I just hope that something still happens for the 50th year of the model rather than it just gets forgotten about.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

If/when the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon re-opens they have the full scale styling model - called Range Stormer that RRS was based onr - with 2 gull wing or scissor doors and laminated wooden seats....... in Vesuvius Orange on display. It’s a good day out if you are passing by or staying not too far away. Their cafe was my mid morning / lunch stop when I was driving north from west London to Scotland. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

There's a pic of it in the book, Tim. Apparently the hydraulic doors no longer work because they went faulty and the company built it in Italy went bust so it was never repaired.

It's interesting though because the book explains that the Range Stormer was not the concept car for the L320. I always thought it was too.

The L320 design existed before the Stormer. This makes sense when you think about it because the Stormer was unveiled only 12 months before the L320 started rolling off the production line. That's way too short a time period to design and productionise a new vehicle.

The purpose of the Stormer was to prepare the public and motoring press mindset that a Land Rover could be 'sporty'. So, what LR did was take some of the key design features from the L320 and create the Stormer.

So as strange as it sounds, the Stormer was based on the L320. Interesting indeed! Kev

I think the Stormer actually presaged the Evoque in some ways, at least in terms of the large body, small glasshouse styling proportions etc. I doubt it had anything to do with it, but maybe it just planted a seed in the design team's mind about sporty proportions. After all, the whole range has moved increasingly in the direction of lots of body, reduced glass height ever since.

The Stormer feels huge when you stand next to it in the museum (I was there at the beginning of the year). I don't know what the dimensions are and how they relate to the RRS, but it just feels like a big lump of a thing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
