Think what you like but after serving thirty years as a Detective on a stolen vehicle unit and heading a National committee of National Police vehicle examiners I think I am pretty well qualified to comment ....

Very few forces have any specialists in post now and virtually all Vehicle squads have been disbanded.. Car crime is no longer a priority.

I'm guessing you weren't responsible for allocating resources then. Simple numbers and if you want to be angry at someone, be angry at the Home Office for reducing police across the board not your local force. Ferrari F430 Spider F1

Spookily enough I work with them as well...
It’s the decision of individual Chief Constables to set their allocations and where they put their officers ... unfortunately rather than face the music they throw men in knee jerk reactions to whatever is the latest media frenzy...

The issue was that volume vehicle crime was descending since 1998 when immobilisers were fitted as standard... Nuisance vehicle crime was going down (Think Vauxhall Nova stolen with screwdriver) but organised crime of vehicle trafficking ( think BMW, Mercedes, JLR) was going up...this figure was hidden and disguised amongst the overall decline...

Despite the warnings at least ten years ago that cars were being stolen by organised international crime gangs (by electronic methods without keys ) Chief Constables decided to close down their squads still enjoying the decline of volume vehicle crime..

The majority of specialist police officers and police staff were made redundant or redeployed. I cannot think of any force other than the Met who have any dedicated officers left specialising in vehicle crime.
The organised theft of high value vehicles eventually overtook the the nuisance theft problem which is why today you are suffering significantly increased insurance costs whilst organised crime wins.

All very feasible, and usual small county force manpower allocation as you say.
Despite your very eloquently put argument, the Met do have specialist vehicle units, and furthermore do still have Traffic depts. with suitably trained and very willing guys and girls that have motivation and drive to fight the organised crime syndicates that are involved. These are downtrained officers with a very good skill base.
I know this.
I have the utmost faith that those employed give it their all, and produce some good results.
This really is not the place to be showing a disillusioned and quite damaging stance on the current state of County policing.
Seriously, time to switch off and retire quietly..it can be done..

I think you’ve misread my responses...I am all too aware of how hard the officer on the street is working...trust me I also know and they are not in any way to blame..

I am only giving reasons as to why people’s insurances are skyrocketing... that’s somewhat different from my disillusioned and damaging comments..
But you’re entitled to your opinion.... Very Happy

If there was no market there would be no crime.
