Easy connector for battery charger

For those who forget that their charger is connected. From amazon or ebay. Magnetic connector, just pulls apart

I have been pondering popping one of those somewhere on the Cobra - someone else on the forum already did just that and they seem like a nice solution, especially as the port is IP65 rated. 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

Currently I've to run the charge lead under the bonnet to a Ctek connector poking out of the battery box, so something like these would be ideal. But I cannot think of where I could fit one while keeping it discreet, aswell as easy to access and keep it out of the direct weather/wheel throw area's. I'd be happy getting an additional tow cover to butcher with fitting something like this but I do tow on occasion so it could be a pest if wired through, and it's as easy popping the bonnet as removing the cover to charge via the tow socket.

So has anyone any idea's for a discreet place to fit something like this while keeping access easy and out of the direct weather? 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

This is where I fitted mine, you don't have to open bonnet, remove tow eye cover or unlock the car to connect/dis-connect it and just tucks under bonnet when not in use, never had any issue with being non waterproof and often have tropical storms here. Unfortunately it doesn't stop you driving off with it connected. Very Happy

Thanks Col

That took me a minute to figure what the pic was. So do you just run the cable over the rubber seal which would hold it in place? I could go with that.

That pic has given me another idea though, the scuttle cover needs freshened anyway and are not that expensive to replace so fitting a panel mount like the above magnetic one to the scuttle cover could work. I'd be wondering if a diode inline would be a good idea, in addition to a fuse.

Cheers

As its IP65 as defined below means it can be anywhere. My Ctek comfort connector is in the space below the number plate so the bonnet does not have to be opened. A small bracket can be fitted in this area to hold this connector.

(An IP65 tested product offers dust protection, but also has sufficient waterproofing to stop powerful water jets. As such, it should offer protection under extreme weather conditions.)

Dennis, don't want to hijack Lindab's post but could post a picture of under the bonnet if you wanted as also fitted it via a Anderson plug so could connect a battery charger or tyre inflator compressor if needed.

Cheers

Dennis, another idea is to mount the charger in the car itself. That's what I did recently and it works great. Have a look at my post here: https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/post592283.html Kev

Try Sonax Tyre Gel with a small sponge. Much better than any aerosol product Thumbs Up Bow down

Lindab, I'm familiar with IP ratings but it doesn't prevent against a short across the terminals, which a diode would

Col, thanks but I'm really just after a discreet option to hook the charger onto, I can't see requirement for an anderson connector.

Kev, that's a great setup, I missed that post. I don't really want to dedicate the charger to the RRS as I cycle it round all my vehicles and classic tractors, but that could well be a good place to mount the 12v magnetic connector, under the bumper beside the tow cover. Then I could take a feed from the tow socket permanent live which will conveniently be fused.

DrRob, I've been meaning to get my scuttle cover freshened up for a while now, if you use that Sonax Tyre Gel, how long does it last? I've had a bottle of Gtechnique trim stuff for a while now but if the Sonax was better then it's not a job I want to do too often.

I put some on half of the scuttle and am monitoring. It’s lasted longer than any aerosol product so far Thumbs Up Visitor from fullfatrr.com
