Oil grades

Would it be okay to use a 5W 40 fully syn as opposed to a 30? Only ask as that’s what I use in one of my other vehicles so could buy a job lot. Steve

On one hand these engines are very fragile, so most people will say stick to what is recommended to minimise problems.

On the other hand I think 5W40 is permitted in the citroen TDV6 engine, which is the same engine

Ireland 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Sumatra Black

oil grade itself is only half the picture.

need to be sure the oil is actually up to specification JLR.

3.0 Litre engine needs C1 spec. options from Castrol and Shell Helix... i think Mobil 3000 also has a spec compliant with JLR/Ford spec.

2.7 L i always used castrol Magnatec A5 which was compliant with the ford spec rated for that engine. 2007 TDV6 RRS HSE..now gone
