United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Disco Sport

Anyone got any experience of them? What's "the one" to get?

Thinking about getting rid of the XC70 (though loathe to do so) because its a EuroV diesel, which because I live inside South Circular will fall foul to Ulez in Oct 21. In addition my local council are going for emissions based parking permits + £50 for any diesel just because. So I would prefer to get something that is not going to cost me quite as much in just being.

Needs to be good at motorways, comfortable ride (getting old), 35+mpg at high m/way speeds, AWD and Ulez compliant. A Mitsubishi Outlander is also a contender but I think its butt ugly. Anyway, eye currently on Disco Sport, what can anyone tell me?

Or alternatives and depending on finances a Tesla3 4WD might be the one to get.

You need to borrow a Disco Sport for a week, (even hire one) prior to spending your hard earned. I have had a DS as a courtesy car Big Cry In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

Having previously owed an Evoque and been given a Disco Sport as a courtesy car, unless luggage space was a priority, I wouldnt consider the DS. I felt the DS was nowhere near as ergonimically refined as the Evoque. Likewise the road handling of the Evoque felt so much better.

Only problem with both is the well known diesel Ingenium engine oil dilution problems and there are not many petrol versions in the UK (unless buying new to order). MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

Oil dilution is only a concern on the Ingenium models, with is EU6

The older 2.2 lump is much more reliable, and doesn't suffer from the same issues, but is only EU5

The only thing I don't really like with our DS is the ride. It's a little firm on 20's, but otherwise, it's a nice place to be Thumbs Up

The ride on the latest DS is supposed to be superb. I've not driven one myself, but this did make the DS tempting, along with the spacious interior.

When my sport went in for its last service I took the new model DS out & it is a big improvement over the old one. Andy.

My indy replaced their fleet of FL2 loan cars with DiscoSports. I have to say that I've been happy driving one for the day when my RRS is in for servicing etc. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

2013 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 Baltic Blue

I have just bought a new DS (Collecting today!) for my father in law - his 3rd one and personally I think they are excellent and the new 2020 one is a huge improvement over his previous 2017, with 48v and lots of toys off the Evoque.

Yes, it's not a Range Rover, so it's lacking some of the luxury, but he wants it to be comfortable, usable (Everything from tip runs to family holidays and still get him to and from the golf course in style....Which it does perfectly!

New one is actually the 2ltr petrol - so a bit of a change, but a great engine and just better than the competition in my mind. Well worth a test and serious consideration. Now

DS for me is a game of two halves

THe FL2 was an excellent car and a lovely place to be. The DS that replaced it felt like a ford to me - a decent enough car for 20-30K but not for 35K plus.
The latest DS is a totally different car and a much nicer place to be.

This is based on having done lots of mileage in them as courtesy cars (probably a couple of thousand I guess) 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)
2000 D2 TD5 - definitely mine

I would add, that this issue is with engine & DPF installation. The DPF just does not get enough heat on certain installations, nothing to do with the Ingenium Power Unit.

I had some info on this from JLR a while back, I will try and dig it out In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

JLR DPF info

As promised, DPF location is the issue, not the Power Unit.

Agreed, but when the DPF is an integral part of the engine management system, it still makes it an issue

And that is also ignoring all the other Ingenium issues Laughing
