Activity key?

My car’s previous owner had an activity key but had never used it- still sealed and left in car!

I really like the idea of using it, not all the time- just for those activities where having a key fob is a no-no.

Not keen on what has been said about the insurance white elephant of having your key fob left in car while activity key is activated. I see Land Rover say as long as your fob is ‘out of sight’ you’re covered but I can’t help but be dubious!

What’s people’s thoughts/experiences? Do we have any activity key ambassadors?

Maybe a call to insurance company for some peace of mind? (Written confirmation required I’d have thought)

I have an activity key, my understanding is that when you lock the vehicle with it the car deactivates the original key fob until you unlock it again using the active key.

I may try locking someone in the car using the activity key and seeing if they can unlock and start with the actual key fob. MY19 RRS Autobiography Dynamic 3.0 sdv6, Carpathian Grey, black pan roof, black pack, black 22’s, black side steps, ebony/ebony interior

It does state in the manual that any keys left in the car are disabled so that’s enough for me but testing it might be a good idea.

One bit of advice I did receive is if you lock it with the activity key make sure you unlock it again with the activity key, don’t be tempted to use the spare key as I was told with will cause havoc with the system.

I use use the activity key all the time where Im training, the car deactivates the key fob when you place it in the centre consol compartment (so its also always hidden from view). I know it deactivates the key fob as it went wrong back in August and went for a long run, came back and the activity key opened the car as expected but the key fob wasn't 'reactivated' by the car...so I couldn't start the car!

so had to go home get the spare key fob and come back to start the car which was painful as I was 10 miles away...expensive taxi there and back!

Only just had it looked at and its now fixed and LR changed the chip in the car which clearly failed and now works fine again. MY18 Range Rover Sport SVR (18' - current)
