Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange
4.2 V8 rear silencer removal

Morning All,

So whilst my Sport is in for open heart surgery I thought I'd get the exhaust fettled with.

In the past I had a Quicksilver Sports exhaust fitted. Whilst I loved the snap, crackle, pop on the overrun the drone at 1800RPM was unbearable.

I seem to remember a member here had the back bnoxes removed from their 4.2SC, but for the life of me can't find the post or the video for it....

Can anyone point me in the right direction or let me know what the effect will be with the rear silencers removed.

Cheers Tyrefitter, Thumbs Up

I did find that one, but as in all cases the 'resonator' was removed they're a lot louder. Hoping the removal of the rear silencers only will be a good compromise as the Quicksilver exhaust only had the front 'blend box' and then nothing.

I'm hoping that with the resonator the drone won't be present when cruisiing...

Guess I'll find out on Thursday, or perhaps earlier...

Thanks again 2006 RRS S/C CONSTANTLY under modification...

Whilst the removal of any 'box' will increase the noise, in general the main large boxes nearer the engine lessen the actual noise levels, whilst the rears affect the tone more. 2010 3.6 TDV8 HSE (Gone)

Thanks for the advice, lets see how it goes as the engines going back in as we speak and the exhaust should be finished tomorrow ready for a shakedown.

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Java Black

I had the back boxes removed, but it didn't make it that much better, so I had the resonator removed as well. I've not really noticed much of a drone on the motorway, but the exhaust sounds phenominal, Like it should have been from the factory. 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged

I had the "resonator" box removed (first box after the manifold) and left the rear silencers.
It sounds like an SVR and sounds like it should, that beautiful V8 sound!
A slight drone on motorway but worth it for town cruising! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?
