RRS cutting out in the fast lane!!

Hi

A friend of mine has an 09 RRS which keeps cutting out when driving, it was a bit unnerving at first when your Big Cry out in the outside lane and you lose everything. You have to put the car in neutral (auto box) turn it off the then turn it back on and it resets. RR main dealer have had it and even though it happened while a mechanic was driving it they have still not been able to fix it. Does anybody else know of this fault? Any help would be gratefully received, we have changed the fuel pump now as they said it was low fuel pressure, we have also changed the EGR valve! Getting desperate now I was in it the other day with him and it was happening every 20 minutes or so

Probably should mention its LH drive not that that should make a difference

A bit more info on the small screen box on the RPM gauge the Suspension system light comes on and the DSC light comes on when it cuts out. also, on the main RPM gauge another red triangle with a circle around it comes on as well, not sure what one this is.

Have had the same problem for about a year.
Bought a magic box and code pointed to MAP sensor.
Had my local indie (Paul Marley, Staxton) check and clean the sensors, all O.K. but he found a crack in the inlet manifold.
Hopefully having that replaced will sort it.
Hope this helps.
Wink

Crankshaft position sensor?

Main dealers are not much good at diagnosing faults like this - but they'll happily carry on changing expensive parts at your friend's expense though.

You need a good independent - hopefully someone will recommend one near to you if you ask here. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

RR Sport cutting out

My 2011 R R Sport suffering the same problem.Keeps cutting out after 5 miles or 40 miles. Local Indy fitted new LP fuel pump and battery.Still cuts out, told me to refill with good fuel and see if it is cured.Still cuts out.sometimes no warning lights, sometimes a few.I am thinking dirty Erg valves, dirty Maff sensor .Not sure where crank positioning sensor is located.Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Ian North Wales.

I've heard this can be an issue if the earth strap is corroded. Kev

The as others have said, this would be the first thing to check (ie change), if it was me. It's one of the few things that can cause the engine to stop (ECU thinks it's no longer turning). Other things like EGR valves, MAP sensors can/will cause rough running, but not stop it. Thumbs Up
