You'll need to replace the latch in the door. Common problem. Kev

Without knowing the year of your car, no sorry.

I've replaced a few with second hand ones from eBay. If you are doing it yourself that's probably the cheapest way but if you are getting a garage to do it, you may as well buy a brand new part. Kev

It is a really common part to fail but the components are specific on year and model so make sure you purchase the right part..
Island 4x4 and Advanced factors sell them.... as well as Britpart....
A genuine one is about £120 an oem type one is £30-40 .....

Absolutely take you time if you are going to do it yourself...when it comes to releasing the cables from the lock work out which bits to squeeze and use a small pick tool to gentle tease them apart... if you break the clips your Censored !

Also you will need to release the window from the motor.. this is dead simple if you know how! The easiest way is to remove the rubber strip that runs along the bottom of the window...this just levers up using a plastic spatula...but from memory there is also a small nut and bolt which secures it at the front end to the door skin... open the door and look at the hinge end and you will see the small nut...
Once you have that strip off you can see down inside the door...at the bottom of the window there are two plastic clips which clip into two holes at the bottom of the window pane...if you slide a plastic ruler or piece of rigid plastic down the outside of the glass into those white clips it will push open the lugs securing the glass...

It’s a tricky job which will take you a couple of hours but with care it’s rewarding when you’ve done it...

Inside the latch are two little scalextrix sized motors... one of these will have burnt out and hence the lack of locking action!

Interesting, just replaced a rear one in mine and never removed motor from window, just dropped the whole unit motor and glass down inside the door a few inches.

Cheers

If it's an RRS1 like mine I just removed the speaker and you can see the clip that the window attaches to. Here's the video from pwerfull uk as I said ignore the lock refitting bit, you'll never get the new one back in it was simpler to remove the lock and handle together. If it ain't broken down it soon will

Aaah... you can obviously get away with it then on the RRS...i’ve Replaced them them both on a Freelander 2 and a Disco 3 (same concept ) but the design of those doors makes it easier to remove the window unless you have incredibly double jointed and dexterous hands....
Only advice is be patient and don’t try and force things....
