Singapore Airlines upgrade

We are off on our jollies next week to Singapore and then on to Oz, flying with Singapore Airlines. We have booked the extra legroom seats in economy (we tend to spend the difference while on holiday on extravagances) but have today received an email inviting us to participate in an auction to upgrade.
I'm not particularly minded to bid too much as I am OK with the seats we have, but the Mrs fancies turning left. Has anybody done this and what sort of ball park figure won them.

Well I travel between Dubai and UK on a regular basis and 9 times out of 10 am offered a special business class upgrade deal which works out around the £250 mark.

Well spotted! I have had a good look at this and its seems to start at £295 each per leg. As we have pretty good seats already, I don't think it's worth the extra. I'm sure Mrs Beanie will find something to spend the extra on during the trip Laughing .

For the record, I was thinking £350 as an absolute minimum. But why not put in a lower bid? You never know your luck and it will feel like a bargain if you do get lucky. Only danger is that if you have not flown business before then, just as you enjoy your pricier premium economy now, it's hard to go back to lower seat levels when flying long haul, especially if you are tall, creaky, fussy or all three. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

I am both tall and creaky, but having flown with them before am OK with the size of the cattle class seats and having the extra legroom seats should solve the actual comfort issues. The website has a slider scale which starts at £295, so no cheeky offer available.

A London to Singapore upgrade to Business Class at £295.00 is an absolute bargain, don't hesitate book it. You get to use the Lounge at Heathrow saving money on refreshments and reading material. Great drinks selection as well. Then on-board the experience is on another level over premium economy. Good food and drink, great video screen and then stretch out for a sleep on the bed.

It all comes down to how important the flight experience is to you. There is nothing wrong with economy with better legroom for a few hours and even at the prices quoted, it adds up for both of you.

I was upgraded to Business FOC London - Miami years ago. Believe me, the airline has done very well out of that as it is quite hard to go back to economy. It isn't always as expensive as it seems. Join the rewards programme and a long- haul can result in enough credits/points to fly into Europe for free or very cheap.

For the amount being quoted I would absolutely go for it but; as I say it's your money, you decide what is important to you. Biggest mistake I made was paying for Business London-Amsterdam. Spent more time taking off and landing than in the air.

It's a 13 hour none stop flight with SG
Anything under 300 is a bargain equivalent to 20 per hour!
Great value - if offered and wanted? --------------------------------
2011 Autobiography, Fuji white, Le Mans interior
2006 HSE Black / beige 3 years from new
1986 RR Classic - metallic blue / grey - fantastic car
