United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey
2012 AUTOBIOGRAPHY SPORT

Hi Guys.

I am going to look at and 99.9% buy tomorrow a 2012 AUTOBIOGRAPHY SPORT. I have lived in the Audi world so RR are a little new to me.

I am buying via a dealer but with regards to age, and millage at 100, 000 what are they types of things i need to look out for and check?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.

If it's from a dealer with that mileage, insist that the belts are changed if they haven't already been done. They're due to be done. There are two, make sure both are done, along with the tensioners. If they haven't been done and the dealer refuses to do them, either knock off a grand from the price or walk away. If you buy it without the belts being done, get them done ASAP.

On a test drive, drive over rough tarmac if you can. The ride is firm but not noisy. Any clunks mean the suspension bushes are tired. Lower front arms are the usual ones to go first, along with the anti roll bar bushes. Check everything works properly. Put it in to low range, drive a short distance and put it back in to high range. The change is just audible as a couple of clicks. You may never need low range but you want it working. The park brake should activate and deactivate with no more than a sigh. Any harsh noises are a sign that it needs attention. The brakes are effective on these things, which is good because they're heavy. It should pull up straight on level tarmac. Put it in dynamic mode on the Terrain Response system. The steering should firm up and the suspension will also be firmer. It's noticeable on a twisty bit of road.

Lift the vehicle to off road height to check it rises quickly and reasonably evenly. The rear will probably lift slightly first but the front should lift almost with it. Once it's lifted, have a look underneath - ideally, ask them to stick it on a ramp so you can have a proper look. Nothing should be leaking. You can't see much at the front as the engine is covered from below, likewise the gearbox, but you can see in from the sides in certain places. The transfer box is visible and should be leak free, likewise the rear differential. Any leaks are a big bill waiting to happen. Lots of oil around the rear diff points to a leaking rear anti roll bar above which is a four-figure replacement cost.

Check everything works again.

Any doubts, walk away. There are plenty of RRSs on the market so don't fall in to the trap of falling in love at first sight. Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

But is your Indie a Land Rover specialist? Taking it to somebody specialising in VAG cars isn’t going to do you or him any favours, they will know nothing about the job like that the body is designed to be lifted off to get access to the back of the engine...... find an LR specialist indie rather than any specialist in other makes. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

???

Of course he is a LR specialist, he’s an Independent Land Rover Specialist and a very good one too.

Are you referring to to the OPs Audi history?

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I have walked away from this one. Something didn't feel right about, dealers said it was fsh but is unable to produce paperwork or confirm what's been done.

I am going to look at another 2012, 74,000 miles , fsh and loads of work and paper work to back it up.

Full Service History, Just Serviced,12 Months MOT, New Front Suspension Arms.

The car looks immaculate, is a couple more ££ than I wanted to spend but you have to go with a gut feeling and know when to walk away from the other one. Will update if I buy it

The same about the belts with this one as well mate,
the 7 year service seems to be a time a lot of people
get rid of them for something else, as said the dealers
will charge £1,600 upwards depending on what one you
find, an independent in the SE is not as cheap as in the
midlands or further north, so your looking at around £1,200

with genuine Land Rover parts being used..

not sure at what point they changed but there is 2 different
service schedules for these, what your being quoted is for the
preferred (by Me)..the other just talks about Service A & B,
Much cheaper but you need to take care of your investment..

I am a fairly new owner myself (1 Year) with mine booked in for the
7 year service next month..

..Good luck with your search.. ===========================================

A 2012 is due the belts now - they are 7 years or the equivalent mileage. Many people go on the mileage and forget the 7 years. A 2012 is due the belts unless already done. Any garage that tries to tell you otherwise is not to be trusted. Walk away. That includes main dealers.

My indie charged less than a grand all in for service with belts. Anyone charging more is a main dealer or a robbing bas**ard. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks Guys.

Ok 7 years I get on the belts. But what if dealer says yeah but car has only covered x miles. Is there a mileage that they must be done at? Anything I can print off to take and have a proof?

Oh I’m looking at an SDv6 by the way

Cheers

Craig.
