Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the quick reply to my query.
Would be great if you did find a photo by chance!

By the sounds of things my step sounds worse than yours. The paint shouldn’t really be wearing off but apparently the warranty person has looked in to it and returned with the wear & tear verdict. I’ve asked them to check again and referenced the LTB this time so awaiting the feedback on that request but not holding out much hope!

Vehicle was registered May ‘16 so still within manufacturers warranty

Thanks again

Hi Barclay.

I'm afraid I don't have any pictures I am really sorry Big Cry Typical I didn't take any of the side step wear straight away !!

Nope they are wrong it's not wear and tear Censored If the special coating has come off due to just wear and tear and it is not showing any signs of scuffing or it being scratched off by being hit it will be covered they are just trying to get away with it !

Make sure they see the bulletin on topix which clearly states this !!

Definitely get it done as you are entitled to it being replaced Thumbs Up

Let us know how you get on Thumbs Up

Thanks.

Hi folks,
Quick update on this one - car had been in for a service and I brought up the step issue again.
Long story short, the Dealer finally agreed to replace under warranty which I am very happy with.
My advisor on this occasion was great and made an effort to help me out as much as possible with the claim - which is sadly not always the case nowadays.

Thanks again for the input! Thumbs Up

Aside from the side steps having a mind of their own...but that's ok says the dealer, they are saying the wear on the side steps is acceptable.

I have pointed them in the direction of the Topix update and await their findings. Current - 2019 L494 AB Dynamic
Gone - 2017 L494 AB Dynamic, Carpathian Grey, Ivory Leather, Stealth and 22’s

Hi All,

I am new to the forum.

I recently purchased a 2016 RRS and have the same issue with the paint wearing on the deployable side steps.

Can you advise how I can remove the tread plates on the deployable side steps?

I removed the 4 hex bolts but the tread plate refuses to budge.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 🙂

Thanks Martyn, unfortunately it’s the right one that needs refurbishment on mine.

I can see on a previous post that you managed to remove just the tread plates on yours, can I ask how you managed to get them off please?

Thanks Martyn - I managed to get them off with some persuasion from a rubber mallet. 🙂

Hi Martyn what paint did you use to refurb your side steps? How did you strip the old off? Have they lasted ok?

Hi Pete

Resurrecting and old thread here. I had drivers side repainted at body shop in anti slip truck bed type paint.
I’m afraid 18 months later lots has worn off.

I’m a little unsure how to proceed. My may did use some alloy etcher first as well to try to make the coating adhere.

Has anybody found a long lasting way or refurbishing them? Powder coating perhaps 🤷‍♂️? 3.0 SDV6 HSE L494
