United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Drivers door

Hi there

I recently bought my first RRS, a 2006 2.7 HSE, which I love - except the driver's door. Even if I open another door to release air pressure, I have to slam it really hard to make it close. All the other doors are fine.

It seems to be aligned OK, and the catch isn't damaged, so could it just be a worn latch?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance.

Dunf

Morning dunf.
Have you tried a large screwdriver to see the location that the lock latches? Generally if it is latching ok (once latched try to unlatch with a bit of force) if it unlatches then a new lock will be required.
If your striker plate on the body has become marginally loose, it slowly travels back wards, resulting in the door having to be slammed.
Check the striker ensure it hasn't moved, if so, try a bit of trial and error to set it, also check the bolts to your lock are tight.

Thanks Shepp, that makes sense, I'll try what you suggest.
Fingers crossed, it's just a loose strike plate. I don't fancy tacking the lock.

The locks are fairly easy to swap, if it is the lock, check ebay. I changed 3 of my door locks and the boot on my previous rrs. Easy enough and half the dealer price on eBay for genuine locks (approx £30) MY12 RRS HSE

Hi Shepp

That's good to know, I'll look for how to do it on Youtube.
I tried what you suggested, and the strike plate is solid, and the existing lock appears to latch in a similar position to the other doors. I guess the lock must be worn, so for the sake of £30, I'll give to a go.

Thanks again.

Dunf

Just had a quick check on eBay, you can get the locks brand new for less than £25. They are easy enough to fit, just a bit fiddly with the window and it's mechanism. MY12 RRS HSE

Hi Shepp

I finally had the latch mechanism replaced (I caved into using a mechanic in the end), which did the job. Funnily enough, it seemed worse at first, as the door shut with a harsh clunk, although the did alarm stopped going off every five minutes. A few days in (feeling naffed off) the new part seemed to bed in, and now the door shuts normally.

Thanks for your advice.

Yours

W
