Weekend car wash - how to save the battery?

Hi folks, did some searching with little joy.

I’m a bit of an amateur when it comes to detailing. Done it a few times and each time the car has given me a ‘low battery’ warning. Never stopped me from starting the car so it wasn’t too bad.

As I plan to detail the car today what’s the advice on avoiding the ‘low battery’ warning. Given the car has many gadgets I assume there’s a proper method. Is there a mode I can enter the car in that allows me to keep car doors open whilst detailing without using the battery power?

I think I’m using power with the opening and closing of doors. Or do I manually need to kill the interior door lights?

I made that mistake a few weeks ago,, never gave it a though, had the doors open etc and was playing with seat positions and when I went to start it the battery was proper flat. Next time I might consider disconnecting the battery! 2010 RRS, TDV8

heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!

OP.....No idea what yer or type of car you have (you can add it in signature if so motivated).

On L320 RRS models...With your drivers or other door open hold down the centre overhead inyerior light switch (5 or 10 secs I think) then inerior lights remain off. Also keep keys out of ignition thereafter to avoid temptation of having car originated music whilst you work.

That has worked for me thus far.

Not related to car clean time but bet thing is to use a reconditioning charger...of more benefit in colder weather when battery can suffer more but every 4 months won't hurt.

I simply have one of these....There are more powerful or expensive ones but this ok on mine (V8 petrol - not diesel). Appears to be a stripped down ctek charger or equivalent. Mine is for up to 120mah so check your battery spec s

If you have tow electrics, you could do as many D4 owners do, and charge the battery thro' the aux. socket. Lleave it on while polishing and for a few hours after, and you'll be okay.

Just to add the one I linked to is under £20.....although I referenced ctek it's an ultimate speed ..identical ro mine which I got from lidl (not in stock
presently).

The Ctek mx10 can provide 12V via tow socket adaptor so stops battery draining.
Or switch off interior lights which are the main culprit I think Thumbs Up Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Thanks all for your responses. Trickle charge is difficult as I’m in a flat and getting a power supply to the car is very tricky and not something I feel I should have to do to wash the car?

Surely there must be a simple smart way to address through the design of the electrics? They have thought of valet modes and services modes etc?

Am I putting too much faith in a Land Rover design folks? 2018/19 Range Rover Sport SVR [black]

Needing a power supply just to wash a car is clearly over the top here. If the car drains it's battery while the doors are open for a few minutes to wash the door jams, then something is wrong.
Leave doors closed and all should be fine. 2011 MY D4 HSE
