Thinkware 770F and phone app

This is a smartphone issue, rather than a RRS one, but I'm hoping that someone on here has encountered (and solved) the problem. Dashcam works brilliantly, but I can't get my phone, a Moto G4+, to talk to the dashcam- all I get is 'unable to connect to the internet' message when I try to use the phone app. It's not the service provider, as the app works fine on my wife's Samsung and we're both with EE. Trawling the various Moto and dashcam forums shows I'm not alone with the issue, but none of the so-called solutions offered work. I rang EE's help department and they couldn't help and put me through to Motorola in Ireland- I might have got more success ringing the Marx brothers, as the chap I spoke to had never even heard of dashcams connecting through Wifi to a phone!

have you searched for the dashcams wifi signal with your phone..

It picks it up no problem, just won't make the internet connection. I think it's probably a tethering issue, but phone only has options for USB and Bluetooth tethering and although I have tried to make my phone a WiFi hotspot, I'm not sure I've been doing it right, as whatever I do makes no difference.

isnt the dashcam the hotspot not the phone..

I'm presuming it needs to be my mobile that is the hotspot as the dashcam has no internet capability and needs to use the internet on my phone. Unfortunately, Moto instructions on using the phone as a hotspot require the other device to enter a pass code- an impossibility as the dashcam has no keys or even a screen. Bloody stupid system (Blackvue is the same), don't understand why they can't interconnect using Bluetooth, would be so much easier. Various forums put connection problems down to service provider not allowing 'data sharing', but I have ticked for this to be allowed on my phone and EE clearly supports it, otherwise it wouldn't be working on my wife's phone.

Sounds like your phone has the issue, my iPhone and Thinkware talk to each other with out a problem.

I'm sure you're right, Whippetman. There's probably an easy fix, but whatever it is, is beyond my limited comprehension of smartphones. At least I was able to use my wife's phone to turn off the irritating lane departure warning, which for some inexplicable reason, can't be turned off using the PC.

The dashcam is the hotspot. Same thing on a GoPro to watch/delete/edit videos on your phone.



Obviously it won't access the internet, just the dashcam's internal features. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

Thanks, Syl. I'd already gone down that route, but without success. I'm obviously barking up the wrong tree with the 'hotspot' issue. (What I know about smartphones can be written on a tiny piece of paper with a very large pen).

Problem finally solved. Got back onto Motorola and this time, spoke to someone who was a bit more clued up. Known issue with Moto phones running Android 7, so updated to Android 8 and everything now working as it should.
