SatNav update for 2011 model - no longer supported

Just had the car in for a service and thought I'd have the SatNav updated for the first time. Apparently the dealers are the only ones that can install an update. No update is possible for the 2011 via DVD or USB dongle.

According to the dealer Land Rover no longer offer updates on the 2011 SatNav. It's not the end of the world I'm just a little surprised that support ended in such a comparatively short period of time.

Anyone else have the same experience? 2011 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I enquired about this and the only updates for 2010/11 was by the dealer via their plug in computer. In any case the updates only went to 2015 and would have cost in the region of £160. After these years they then went to usb stick which I presume is still available for those models. Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

I never had my maps updated (MY2011)... not for the want of trying! Two or three dealers attempted it between 2013 and 2014, and it never worked so I gave up. I use my iPhone XS Max and Google Maps with audio connected via the Bozee (or whatever it's call).... it all works brilliantly nd far better than the factory satnav ever did or ever will. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Waze is cheap but unfortunately is not compatible with the 2012 RRS screen. Frankly, given 6 points for even being suspected of using a mobile phone these days...

One of my current projects is to retrofit the connect to view TIM as the Gen 2.1 level 3 head unit was used until at least 2016 so I think that would give you Waze. Time will tell. 2012 5.0 SC AB

That'd be really interesting. Put up a thread if you get round to it ?

I use Google Maps. I set up my day's route on my PC and then just send it to my phone. This would be really good on one of the modern car systems that use Google Maps for their sat nav anyway, but sadly that's not the case with my 2012. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I find the 2019 update is pretty accurate. And generally once I've been somewhere once I can find it easy enough again without satnav so I tend to use it only to count down distance and time to destination, or on a general map view on cross country roads to give me a heads up what is coming if I am pressing on a bit or unfamiliar with the road. For that it is fine. I agree google and waze are better but the tech is what it is in my 7 yr old car and I don't want to risk the points on my license.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. The projected cost was £255 and even the dealer felt the update would only be a marginal improvement over the edition in the car.

It's still perfectly usable and has only been out relatively few times. I just like keeping things up to date if I can! Smile

Wife is happier using apps anyway! 2011 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Even the satnav on the 2012+ models is pretty dire. Just replace with aftermarket if possible !

Agreed. A real bonus would be if you could find an aftermarket system that integrated with the dash screen and which showed speed cameras!

Too much to hope for I guess...... 2011 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I have the 2012 updated to 2019 maps and would not describe it as dire. Works fine for me. It is tech that now is several years old and people should remember that context.
