Starter motor cuts out after 1 second when car is cold

Hi all, I have 2010 3.6 TDV8 and this little cold snap we're having has exposed a problem I've not seen before. On cold mornings the cold start procedure is as normal but a little extended to wait for the glow plugs to do their work presumably. When the starter motor begins to turn the engine over it cuts out after 1 second and the ignition seems to switch itself off. I repeat the process about 4-5 times and then it turns over normally and starts. Once warmed up it doesn't do it again for the rest of the day. Next morning when cold I get the same problem again. Any ideas anyone please? Battery seems strong enough and there are no dashboard warning lights indicating a problem.

Very symptomatic of a weak battery. I'd suggest have it tested for output Thumbs Up

Ok, sounds like good advice. I’ll get it checked.

I’m having the same problem , maybe 2 or 3 times a week this happens but hot or cold , no real pattern , did you find the problem, battery turns engine over fine on second or 3rd attempt, my car is a 2010 3.6 also , any ideas ?

Sorry, should have updated this one. It was indeed a dying battery. Once a new one was fitted it spun up far quicker than under the old battery so it was clearly on its way out. Problem solved and no further cut outs on starting. Best deal I could find on the correct battery with a 5 year guarantee was this one from Yuasa at £106 posted:
