Engine System Fault

I had an engine system fault a few weeks ago, it was intermittent probably once every 3/4 days. Had someone take a look with a generic reader which showed no error codes, but looking under the bonnet he noticed an air leak from the EGR valve to the intake minifold?

However i had this repaired and it there is now no apparent air leak, but i'm still getting the engine system fault come up, the car has reduced power while the warning is on too, however when not on the car seems to run fine...maybe a little down on power lower down in the revs but i can't be sure.

Not sure if it's related but my MPG seems low too, currently about 17-18mpg.

Would a better reader have more chance of seeing fault codes? looking through the forum it seems others have had engine system faults before with no error codes too.

Probably difficult to say i know, but does anybody have an idea of what could be causing this? 57 Reg TDV8 - Java Black - Privacy Glass - Side Steps Smile

A faulty EGR will reduce mpg and give poor performance. So will split intercooler pipes - easy to check as they're the two s-shaped hoses leading from the top of the intercooler back to the engine. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Are they easy enough to check while still attached or do they need to be removed? 57 Reg TDV8 - Java Black - Privacy Glass - Side Steps Smile

Sometimes a split can be hard to see without removing the hoses.

A generic code reader is really not adequate for a sophisticated beast such as the TDV8. That leaves you needing a properly equipped independent specialist, a kindly forum member near your location with a IID tool or (worst case) a Land Rover dealership.

Hope you manage to resolve the problem. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
