Have a look at this in my gallery File 1 03/05/19, fitting instructions for original version, if new one now plug and play should be even easier as no soldering wires.

Yeah that’s the first version, the new version is plug and play so it may be the new version which has a timing issue, not a fault, just something that happens if you accidentally (whether you know it or not) press the unlock button twice.

Out of curiosity operated the buttons on mine twice in quick succession and that releases the tailgate lock, it then stops opening, if I press button twice but a little slower it opens then closes again, does the same on all three buttons, fob, dash and tailgate never ever noticed before, but then again don't recall ever pressing the buttons twice. But as I say though nothing to do with my original problem as was doing it before mod fitted.

It takes longer to remove the back panel than it does to fit the device. Just don't use the sticky pad wire fixings as mine kept falling off so gave up with them. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Ok tried opening the boot again yesterday with the key. Same thing again , opens a little bit then stops.

I bought a new microswitch/handle for the boot so will fit that and at the same time remove the key closure mod and see if that helps.

Ok Managed to get some time to do this today,

First i removed the mod inside the tailgate ( one that allows the boot to close from the key)

I then decided as per col's suggestion to replace the switch also , was cheap so worth a try . Plus i think i had this problem before i had even installed the rear tailgate mod.

I never new the silver piece wasnt seperate, it actually removes the rear badge also !

The old switch had some bare wires with a sleeve on them ? my new replacement switch does not.

All good for now , will try tomorrow after work when it "hopefully" has been baking in the sun for a bit.

Thanks all for your help ! if the boot continues to work correctly i will reinstall the remote control close mod and see what happens.

Also if attemping to do this , make sure you have a endoscope with a magnet attachment ! . Saved my behind when i dropped one of the bolts in the tailgate, you have no access really to the bottom unless you use something like a endoscope.

Ok a few weeks on..

Boot has started to stick again , sometimes it gets stuck around 5cm from latch .... But yesterday got stuck half way .

If i press the key again it opens fully.

As this is the one piece tailgate , i assume the following could be faulty

Latch ( i assume this has the actuator inside it ? )
Struts ?
Is there any sensor that detects if its hit something and stops the tailgate ?

Anything else ??

Please help Very Happy

You could try cleaning the strut inner (piston?) with a spirit or similar and then lubricating. My struts started making annoying noises so I cleaned and applied Vaseline then opened and closed the tailgate to work it in. There has to be a resistance sensor as it stops opening if it hits an object or the person opening stops it. Perhaps friction in the hinge and strut is tripping this sensor or your struts are tired and losing power. My struts were replaced under warranty before I purchased the vehicle so I’d imagine if yours are original, they could be tired. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I think im gonna try the Struts next .

Not massivly expensive .

even if i have to replace Struts , Motor and latch .. Still has to be cheaper than paying a garage to problem solve it !

Have you tried cleaning them?

You could also try giving them a little help up to see if that stops the fault. It may give you a warm feeling it’s the struts....or not. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Ill be honest , Its so Random i dont even know when it will happen again so might just replace the struts and hope for the best.

If it isnt, the motor will be next.
