These engines have a problem with oil dilution. Common fault that needs a software update. Joe |

No, it's a problem with the diesel engines (euro6) trying to be more environmentally friendly by adding more fuel at a certain time of the combustion cycle to generate more heat in the exhaust to burn the particulates in the DPF. The problem is that some of the extra fuel is going past the piston rings into the sump and mixing with the engine oil. Diesel fuel will dilute the effectiveness of the oil and therefore give an increase in engine wear.

VW are apparently equipping petrol engines with particulate filters. I suspect all manufacturers will do the same.

I believe that BMW has been fitting them to all petrol engined Minis (and possibly to their own marque petrol engine cars) since July last year. My 1.5 3 cylinder turbo petrol doesn’t have one as it was built at the end of May last year so built in time to avoid a further reduction in engine efficiency. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
