Removing 2012 AB spoiler

So this relatively easy task is anything but. I’ve removed the 3 nut from the top part and tried to remove the 2 bolts but they undo about 6 threads easy enough and then go solid. I can see there is no corrosion on the threads so what am I doing wrong? All the vids and how to for the pre 2011 models and the 2012 work shop manual show them removed. I am at a complete loss and I can feel things are going to break if I put much more effort into removing them.

Also, how do you use the adjustment studs on the top 3 studs, one side is low but they appear to do nothing. 2012 5.0 SC AB

You don't remove the three bolts, just the lock nuts plus the two large torx headed screws under the plastic trim one either side of the tailgate can't think of any reason they go solid have never had a problem. To adjust the height you just use a torx socket on the drive at end of the threaded section of the bolts and screw it up or down to adjust the height, if they won't adjust the plastic adjusting threaded bit that lock's into the spoiler may be broken or stripped.

I’m thinking my spoiler is shagged!

I don’t have torx bolts, there’s 2 normal hex bolts inside the frame (it’s the 2012 boot and spoiler) which unscrew a bit and then go solid. When trying to undo them both they undid the same amount and I heard a piece of what I think is plastic break off on both. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Can't really remember fully but the two outer bolts screw into threaded spring nuts which are located on the plastic part of the spoiler so the plastic may have broken and acting like a locknut as you try to undo them. Is the spoiler actualy loose at all or still tight? Looks like they now use a modified spring nut as well.

The bolts loosen a little and the spoiler loosens but that’s as far as I get. I’ve tightened them back up ok. They appear to be like the 2 bolts that hold the lower boot trim handle in place. With those I undid them as much as I could and then pulled them out and as I think you’re implying, the spring nuts tighten as you screw the bolt in. I was half tempted to just try and pull the spoiler off but I decided I would break it. All I want to do is swop the camera over!! I thought it would be the easier part. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Only a suggestion but could you possibly drill the head of the bolt out to weaken it where it meet the shank of the bolt so it shears off as you undo it, and with another pair if hands lift the spoiler off with the remaining part of the bolt still in it, at least you could see the problem and possibly salvage the spoiler. Make sure you throw something over the rear of the roof as it is quite easy to scratch the paint with the adjusting screws when dis-connecting the washer and harness.

Cheers

Now it’s daylight I will have a better look and see what’s going on. If it won’t play I think I’ll be following your suggestion and taking the head off at least one. I am finding any simple job on this car becomes a nightmare and those that I think will be difficult tend to be straight forward. ACE pipes being a prime example, told it was a bitch and found it easy. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Sorted, the spring clips were crap or should I say the plastic they fit over. The snapping I heard was the plastic tang which holds the clip in a straight position snapping. This allowed the spring clips to turn until they couldn’t turn any more. Then I just kept undoing them, took more force than I was happy with but on the right side, it’s off and I think the adjuster is fine. Now I see how it works I think I can make the required adjustment.

So some good news at last. 2012 5.0 SC AB
