James Burke's Connections

Thanks to the internet, I have been able to watch the whole series of James Burke's Connections. When it was first screened in the late 1970's, I was an impressionable young lad with whom this resonated and it most definitely influenced my life, career and outlook. Not only is it still interesting, well-produced and enthralling, it is a series that presents questions about 'the future' and the use of personal data that resound today.

WTF can't things like that be done today? Diversity? Gender/age issues? Politics? Concerns over an actual personal opinion? We have become the most dumbed-down, lowest-common-denominator society I can remember.

PS. My frustration at having to sit through A Question of Sport and Superstars before Connections or Blakes 7 persists to this day. Mention Emlyn Hughes or Brian Jacks and I start to twitch, ready to jump up, walk across the room and press the switch to change to one of the other three channels...
