Hi guys. I’ve just experienced the EPB sticking and had car laid up for couple of days. I had read on the forum about the way to release it by lifting the centre console to expose the cable that you pull. My first port of call was to call the AA but even their guy couldn’t release it! After reading more posts on the problem one guy did suggest that you really have to pull it HARD!!! So yeah I used the hooked end tool from the boot with the screwdriver through the hole at the top of it to give more purchase. Lo and behold it released. I’ve only had car few months so I will look into getting it cleaned up as disco mikey suggests. Only headache now is the park brake light is flashing constantly on dash and it’s bloody distracting, so would getting the car on a diagnostic clear that? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yes.. the flashing light can be cleared using an appropriate tool.
It will need a handbrake service tho', and depending on parts needed, is not too expensive. If you're handy with spanners, it's pretty much an old school internally expanding leading/trailing brake shoe setup.
The pain is the electronics.. hence the correct tool to set the EPB into Service mode and retract the cables. 2011 MY D4 HSE
