Am looking to purchase a circa 2007 as only do 50 miles a week max.

Yep. I can get around 18mpg back and to work...mainly dual carriageway and a distance of just over 12 miles each way. On my days off it drops to 13 / 14mpg pottering around. Steve.

12mpg is about right around town. Im on 18mpg after a few A road runs in the last week.

I had a 5.0SC for a few days while mine for in for electrical gremlins and got about 24mpg on the same A roads. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

50 miles a week? Is that 5 miles each way, 5 days a week? The engine won't be warm for a fair lump of that, especially in the winter. Not likely to be good for fuel economy or engine life... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

This is one reason why I recently bought a 2005 L320 4.4 HSE

Currently has 21.7 displayed as average. (Yes I know computers can lie)

Sunday I drove 2.5 hours out of London and home average on display was 25.4.

Cruise at 60 mph nearer 27-28 mpg ....55 or 50 mph even better. (Conditions engine and ambient temp can vary this a bit).

Hasn't always been this good....I had to sort some brake binding issues to get to where I am currently.

Better mpg than my last 2 vehicles (RX-8 & 2002 BMW X5).

Insurance cheaper than 4.2 SC. Also no ARC/ACE suspension issues. Whilst the superchargers themselves don't seem to cause many issues the absence of same is another thing not to deal with.( I have also have avoided some issues specific to the 2.7 diesel in making my choice).

Mine rides to an acceptable standard on it's factory 19's which I can replace tyres on for a lesser amount than bigger rims. Pads/discs are more reasonable than on SC also.

My 4.4 is not perfect. I appreciate SC models have better power, brakes handling & spec, however, on balance I am relatively happy.....(considering the age and type of vehicle I have taken on).

To be fair, I only got about 18mpg out of my tdv8! That coupled with diesel being more expensive meant the S/c actually makes sense.

I only get about 400 miles per tank from my current (3.0 HSE Dynamic) - whatever that works out at  Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

To be honest, if you're thinking of buying a 2.5 tonne 4x4 and worrying about fuel economy then you're buying the wrong vehicle. No one buys one of these, of any flavour, for their fuel economy.

I have owned my 2005 SC for exactly 3 years now and to be honest she has been expensive. (compressor, front and rear brakes inc disks, tyres, oh and a rebuilt gearbox )

Anyone who buys one of these beasts let alone an older one needs to be able to pay for a lot more than just fuel, they really are expensive hobbies.

To answer your original question, the most I have ever seen is 19mpg on a motorway, around town it varies between 11-15 depending on how I am feeling

Will I buy another one when I sell mine in a month or so? No is the answer, I have scratched the itch now and fancy something sportier again. Good luck with your search but please don't worry about fuel (its the least of your worries)

Ours has an LPG conversion on it. I worked it out the other day that it does 20.13 mpg average on the gas. That's pottering about plus motorway.
If it's just running on petrol then 13 mpg is about right.
My 4.4 X5 only does 19mpg. A few years ago we had a Cayenne which hammered the fuel as well.
Like you say, if you drive one of these big vehicles then mpg is not something to be overly concerned with.

What I meant was 20.13 when calculating the cost is gas vs petrol. Gas is 67.9 at the nearest station. If I go to another when passing which is a bit further away (10 m as opposed to 5m) the gas is 55.9p a litre. That's a big difference.

Mine is showing 11.9 have not bothered to reset it for a while and thats on a 20 mile round trip with quite a bit of motorway driving but i have also just changed the thermostat as it was slightly stuck open but i pass a lpg garage on the way which is only 52.7 p/litre
