Could This Idea Save The Diesel Engine?

I seriously don't believe for one second that they are going to ditch the diesel engine altogether. Really? How are all the trucks, vans, buses, taxis & emergency services going to keep their fleets running if everything is on charge?
Although i haven't looked in to this too deeply as i think it is a bit far fetched considering how the diesel engine has moved on over the years. Has this come from a numpty sat in his Ivory tower thinking, how can i feck this country by the time i am dead?
