Tim, I had no concerns about getting stuck whatsoever. Have a lot of confidence in the off-road gadgets and some experience of using them as well. Didn’t need low range. Don’t think it would have helped with braking on level surfaces, or would it? Engaged HDC once or twice downhill but it wasn’t doing anything as the slopes were gentle and I was slow enough. Just had some minor issues when braking or cornering while on compacted snow. I have never experienced that with winter tyres that’s all. Must say that Southern and Central Scotland has clear blue skies and bitterly cold -6c with no wind this afternoon.

Well in all honesty I`d probably make it to work but as said, with the minus 5 overnight, coming home would probably be a nightmare |

Please folks don’t just go out to see how capable your car is - if you get stuck ( and the car is not invincible despite anything that you might think) you will then be causing even more problems for other drivers or even the emergency services.

Well said Tim, and there are many County’s that have 4X4 Response groups that are always looking to take on members. There is usually opportunity’s for on and offroad driver training courses funded by them as well in return for a small amount of your time |

Phill, the comments were not meant to be aimed at you but the audience in general - my apologies if they were taken that way as that was not what was intended. More RRS owners should get out in the right conditions and find out just what their cars can do before the snow comes down - driving in mud can give a very good impression of driving in snowy and icy conditions and can be great fun without damaging the car unlike driving on ice or compacted snow which can have an expensive ending... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

No I was just backing up Tim’s comments regarding the 4X4 response groups, they do some very important work at this time of the year getting to elderly people in rural communities or delivering supplies or medical professionals to remote locations in bad weather |

Until I saw this about 4x4 help groups on Twitter earlier, I had no idea such a service existed. Well done to anyone who participates in this ![]() |
