United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

Hi

I've had experience of this twice in the last year (indirectly of course !).

The girlfriend put a full tank of unleaded in her polo tdi and drove about 100 yds - cost her £200 for recovery and drainage of the system etc. and that was that.

Her mum put a full tank of unleaded in her dads BMW 535d and drove 8 miles. Result was a £6k bill from BMW for replacing the whole fuel system. He was able to claim the repairs on his insurance though - might be worth checking your policy.

Good luck

My sister did exactly the same a few years back in a ford focus - drained/cleaned & all was ok = cost £30 at local independant mechanic.

GOOD LUCK Very Happy

Hi Unhappy Gilmore

I would get one of these http://www.dieselguard.com/
Though you probably wont for get in future.

Let us know the damage to your bank account as it will help me remember.
I am dreading doing it when I get two new Diesel vehicles later this year (RRS + BMW 320d) I have never owned a deisel before so it comes naturally to pick up the petrol pump.

Whu cant they make the nosey and opening hexagonal?
I guess its too late now to change it with so many cars on the road.

You may feel a dork at the pump with this but your pocket will feel better.
John

I filled up a P38 Range Rover 2.5 BMW diesel with BP super unleaded (Dark Blue graphics) at night, drove for 15 miles to Gatwick to pick up my wifes family and duly conked out on the M23 Gatwick exit bridge.

Car recovered on a flatbed trailer , Landrover charged me about £300 for an engine flush and new fuel filters.

I sent a letter to BP asking them for some 'consideration' since their Dark blue livery on the unleaded pump was misleading at night and could be mistaken for diesel - I also said that the rubber feeder tubes didn't match the fuel type either, I think the unleaded pump I used had a black hose. They sent me a cheque for the full amount.

I don't have to come here to be insulted you know!! Wink

Although I do feel sorry for anyone that's done it, I suppose I don't really understand why you can fill from the wrong pump... but I guess it's easier said than done... Confused
