Has anyone had much luck with goodwill gestures? My crank snapped last week (2010, 69000 miles) and I'm having conversations with Land Rover at the moment and they think they may offer 20% on a 16 grand bill. Has anyone got any recent experience of this issue? I've read that there was a fault in the manufacturing process of the engine so I'd just like to know if it's worth fighting for more?

Am I being unreasonable for wanting them to pay more then 20% or am I likely to even be offered anymore? Just seems a bit unfair that they were built wrong and now I have to pay for the mistake. I understand that the car is getting on a bit but feel it's a bit extreme for the engine. I will try and get a bit more from them.

Does it matter whose engine it is? It's fitted and sold by land rover. So it's their responsibility. Whether they choose to pay someone else (Ford) to provide a warranty, or take on that liability themselves, should make no difference to the customer/user.
