Hi guys,
My 2011 RRS has been sitting for 3 weeks not moving and when I went to go out in it just now the handbrake makes the infamous release sound but it feels like the pads are stuck to the discs as the car rocks on tickover but when I give some revs it won't release/move.

Any tips for trying anything to get the wheels freed up so I can drive it or am I at the mercy of a mechanic to come out & sort.

Someone said pouring warm soapy water on calipers to get into the pads is an old trick but I'm not so sure...

Have you tried reversing the vehicle slightly? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I think the handbrake (EPB) operates a drum brake behind the discs and calipers and this can stick due to brake dust.

Mine stuck on a very cold day a couple of weeks ago, reversing the car released it. Suggest you give it a try.

I pourred hot water over the callipers and then reversed it free.
Took quite a bit of push to release them but after 10-12 rocks back n forth they released, albeit with a mighty thump noise.

That'll teach me to leave it sitting for weeks with dried mud & salt on the discs!

As said above, the EPB operates inside the rear brake disc bell and uses good old fashioned drum / shoes. You'll struggle to clean out mud etc. without stripping it down. If you're leaving it parked on a level surface then you might be better not applying the EPB and just leaving it in park. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Doesn't the handbrake automatically apply after a certain length of time if you switch the engine off? I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

To complete this thread. This is what the handbrake looks like inside the drums. Well hopefully not like this right shoe which decided to release its lining on day 1 of fitment. There was me suspecting the wheel binding was due to the pad caliper. Had that off on the bench etc etc as this side of the car pads wore down much quicker than the drivers side. Still i know how to fit them now 😡 3.0 SDV6 HSE L494
