Cruise control not working

Hi I have a 2006 rrs sc , have not had it long and have noticed that the cruise control does not work. When you push the cruise button on the steering wheel no lights are displayed on the dash . All other functions on the steering wheel work , any ideas thanks .

Does it have adaptive cruise control, if so does the forward alert work ok.
You can tell if it has adaptive if it's got 3 switches on the left side if the steering wheel. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

If you don't have a owners handbook, you may not know which button activates the CC. Weirdly it's the + button. The RRS is the only car I've owned where the CC is turned on with the + All other cars I've owned the CC is turned on using the resume button

You're welcome, hope it is all ok. You can view the owners manual for your car via the Topix website

Owners handbooks are available through JLR dealers or EBay, and are a must for any vehicle really, being well over 100 pages long.
They should be supplied with car with the service history etc, and wouldn't purchase without the folder and all the other documents.

As stated on basic Cruise Control, the plus is used to set the cruise on at the speed you are driving at, the resume button, when you have braked and want to return to same speed, the minus sign each time pressed takes it down 1mph and the Plus button will increase by 1 mph each time pressed while cruise is in operation. When the Cruise is active you normally get a green speedo emblem on the dashboard display, generally on rev counter or speedo, no words though. Thumbs Up John

And if you have adaptive cruise control the 3rd switch on the left of the steering wheel (the one at the top) is to adjust the distance the RRS will keep from the car in front. 3 options close, medium and long. The radar unit that controls this is sited under the front bumper just to the nearside of the centre line. Robin

ACC detector head is shown in the photo below, it has ACC and the LR logo mounded into the plastic. If you haven't got it working then check that the cover isn't damaged or dirty - the system will not work if the detector is very very dirty or has slush/snow on it and you will get a warning "detector blocked" in the screen - it is one draw-back of the LR ACC that once the blocked detector warning comes up you cannot revert to a conventional cruise control - a pain on a long journey in the winter!

I'm puzzled but then I only have experience of one RRS - my TDV8. Maybe it's different on the V6?

Awaiting input from the RRS gurus here! Robin

As an aside (don't know if it's worthy of a separate (off) topic), but when I sold my Jag the buyer was very keen to see that i had the handbook. He said there was a big market in them. Now I could understand someone stealing my service book then doctoring it to fit another car thereby improving the value of one they were selling. But couldn't quite see the logic with the handbook.
Moral of the story is to check after each visit to your trusty dealer (etc.) that all the books you left in the car for them are still there. No good having FSH if you can't prove it! We know how much value can be added (or lost) with proof of service history. Robin
