Self Locking Query

Should my car lock itself after a while if I've forgotten to lock it ?
I think my Discovery used to do this.
Is there an option in the settings to adjust the time before it locks ?....I've looked but can't find it.

They will normally re lock if you unlock it and do not open a door in a short time. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

Afraid not, that facility isn't available up to the 2013 year models, if yours is newer someone will be along soon, but I don't believe even the new ones do that. John

John,

You are correct. If you leave an L494 unlocked, it stays unlocked, unfortunately. A definite weakness.

And that is a good "weakness"..

I had a car that was retrofitted with a alrmsysytem
that autolocked the car after 30sec, when turned off and door closed.

Went to buy Pizza at local vendor, came out with my arms full of
hot delicious Pizzas, to a locked car!!
Had left jacket in the car, with the fob in pocket..

Luckily it was summer, and drivers windor open a few cm's,
managed to get my arm in and unlock the car manually..

Had to "readjust" the windowframe a bit afterwards..

So, a "good" weakness, that the car doesn't autolock..

MAXARN58,

Obviously if the car auto-locks while the "key" is in the vehicle would be a bad design, but auto-locking when the key is not inside the vehicle would be a good thing! It would mean that the default state of the car would be locked, NOT UNLOCKED, which is a security weakness.
