The reason the police never changed to winter tyres was because when the weather got bad they came into our place (Waterside Land Rover) as it was then and took our stock of vehicles and used them for the duration. Don't think they bother with the jap dealers prob didn't have any winter tyres available |

Well the time arrived today after 840 miles running on electric and sipping petrol I decided to give the PHEV a drink so pulled into garage and parted with £35 to fill tank |

Well you can't knock that for economy. I guess JLR will have to get with the programme or be left in its wake. What's the performance like in the PHEV compared to RRS? Robin

SRE - I didn't enjoy the sport because the seat was so uncomfortable every time the dealer bent me over |

The bit that confuses me is if the fuel economy/running cost is so important why spend a load of dosh on 'winter' tyres.

Can't help but think that your regular "my float does big mpg, how bad is your Sport" posts are really just self justification for having chosen the float. ![]() ![]() Did 2185 miles over 10 days driving down to Spain and back in my TDV8. I guess it probably used 90 gallons of diesel. Would it have been nice to have got better miles per gallon? Yes. Would I have wanted to do the trip in a milk float? No. I do need the tow capability, of course, and the Sport goes off road - the reason for the Spanish jaunt after all. If mpg was all that mattered we'd all be driving around in milk floats or little cars. I'd have an i3 quite happily, for example. But there is something lovely about a big, comfy, continent-crossing 4x4 that turns oil in to noise at a silly rate. ![]() 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

I can afford to buy winter wheels and safety is important to me but I don't like wasting money - I work hard to get it so why waste it

I was referring more to "comfy" and "continent-crossing" than "turning oil to noise" btw. Both cars serve different purposes. Reading your posts, RRS clearly can't compete with your Outlander on economy but RRS has other qualities where PHEV may be lacking.

I have just got home after 2.5 days in London for quick Buisness meeting. I haven't been to the UK for about 4 years. Traffic between Heathrow and the City is mental, Tower Bridge closed and the stupid cycle lanes along the river seem to take as much space as the road. They have made it almost gridlock. I saw 5 or 6 PHEVS, only 3 RRS and about 8 FFRRs sitting in traffic in a cab. Congestion charge doesn't seem to reduce the.....congestion. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
