I'm transferring my number plate from my current car to my new car which arrives this Friday. Dose anybody know how long it will take to transfer my personal plate over Can I do this before the car arrives? Cheers Laurence.

I found out the hard way - I thought it would be weeks like it used to so did it online early to avoid delay when I sold the DS - computer told me to swap straight away and cost me £25 admin to inform insurance then another £25 to amend when I collected new vehicle

Hi,

AFAIK you can do retention and assignment (to an already registered vehicle) online in minutes.

If you want to transfer to a new unregistered vehicle you'll need to retain the plate and wait for the V778 as your dealer will need the V778 serial number to put your plate on AFRL.

My mates V778 took 3 days to come, last week.
